Every year, schools across the nation enthusiastically participate in the celebration of Read Across America Day, which takes place on March 2—an occasion that honors the birthday of the beloved author, Dr. Seuss. This year, in a special tribute to Dr. Seuss and the countless authors who have enriched our literary lives, we will commemorate this joyful day on March 4.
On this festive day, we invite students to embrace the spirit of reading through their attire. The younger students in primary grades are encouraged to wear Dr. Seuss's accessories, showcasing the vibrant and playful essence of his stories. In contrast, students in intermediate and middle school are invited to step into the attire of their favorite literary characters, bringing the power of imagination to life.
The celebration will kick off with an inspiring recitation of the Reader’s Oath during the morning announcements, setting a tone of enthusiasm and commitment to reading throughout the day. Additionally, green eggs and ham will be an option for purchase at lunch.
Throughout the day, students will be paired with prayer buddies or mixed with different grade levels to engage in a variety of fun and enriching reading activities. We will also set aside dedicated DEAR time (Drop Everything and Read), allowing everyone to immerse themselves in the joy of reading. To add to the excitement, students will have the chance to participate in freestyle rhyming sessions. Together, we will make this day a memorable celebration of literature and imagination!
We hope that you encourage your child to continue the love of reading at home.
